Thank you for your interest in helping
the Chief Okemos District youth
by becoming a Merit Badge Counselor!

Michigan Crossroads Council's process
for becoming a Merit Badge Counselor

The process for becoming a MBC has 2 basic steps:
  1. The MBC Information form (Add/Delete MBs assigned to you as a Counselor).
    1. Verify your Youth Protection Training (YPT) is current on my.Scouting.
    2. Complete the on-line MBC training at my.Scouting.
    3. Fill out the MBC Information form and submit it to your District - Chief.Okemos.MBC@gmail.com.
  2. Register with your District (you will be sent a link after submitting the form).
    1. Verify your Youth Protection Training (YPT) is current on my.Scouting.
    2. Open the link provided and follow the steps to register with your District.

The 'whys' of each step?
  1. The MBC Information form. - this is the form to Add/Delete Merit Badges assigned to you as a Counselor. NOTE: MCC requires submission in PDF format.
    1. Verify your Youth Protection Training (YPT) is current on my.Scouting. - BSA doesn't allow MBCs with expired YPT.
    2. Complete the on-line MBC training at my.Scouting. - Required for new MBCs starting in 2023.
    3. Fill out the MBC Information form and submit it to your District - Chief.Okemos.MBC@gmail.com. - This goes to the Advancement Committee, the individual on that committee can vary by District.
  2. Register with your District (you will be sent a link). - this is done as a Second Step because when anyone who is currently registered in a Paying position goes through the process, they are unable to select MBC as the position they are registering for at the District level. This way the person approving the position can be on the lookout for the registration and not have to figure it out.
    1. Verify your Youth Protection Training (YPT) is current on my.Scouting. - BSA doesn't allow MBCs with expired YPT. Note: Expired YPT is an automatic drop, so please keep an eye on it!
    2. Open the link provided and follow the steps to register with your District.
  3. If for some reason you are unable to register on-line as in step 2.b. above, fill out this BSA Adult Application PDF and send it to your District Executive.
  • After both the first 2 steps are complete, the MBC Information form is sent to the MBC Scoutbook processor (a new role MCC started in early 2023) who processes it (the form needs to also be Cc:MCC.Registration@scouting.org for Archiving by MCC):
    • Assigns MB to the Counselor in Scoutbook.
    • Notifies the District that the MBC Information Form has been processed.
